If you find yourself with a soggy casserole, for whatever reason, try baking it a bit longer until it firms up some.

What can you use instead of butter for French toast? ›

How do you fix a soggy French toast casserole? ›

Why is my baked French toast casserole soggy? Too Wet- Soggy casseroles happen when there is too much of the egg mixture. Our recipe is on the “drier” side of breakfast casseroles, which is how our family prefers it. Make sure you use stale bread… and a thick heavy bakery bread works better than sandwich loaf slices.

Can you eat French toast cold the next day? ›

Which bread is good for French toast? ›

Bread: I recommend using thick sliced bread, like Sara Lee Artesano, Texas Toast, or leftover homemade bread. It's nice (but not necessary) if the bread is a few days old, or slightly stale. We also loving using thick slices of cinnamon bread or brioche!

Why is my baked bread soggy? ›

Once you've shaped your dough, this rising process prior to baking produces the even, structured crumb you find inside any loaf. If the dough doesn't fill out with gas, perhaps because it hasn't had time to rise properly, the inside of the loaf will remain soggy and dense as the dough won't bake properly.

How do you know French toast is fully cooked? ›

"You know when your French toast is done when the center is set and doesn't have a runny consistency once cut," Oliveira says. If you're cooking a thinner French toast or omitted eggs from your soaking liquid, a quick pan-fry will do the trick, with 3 to 6 minutes on each side.
