Organic Sprouted Ragi Powder

A rich and healthy sprouted grains powder including ragi, wheat, barley, jowar, whole green gram and groundnuts is the best wholesome food that can provide all the nutrition required for babies and toddlers. This is a traditional recipe from my mom and my kids enjoy them a lot. My picky eater also eats it without complaining when she does not want to eat anything.

What do you need to make this sprouted ragi flour recipe?

The best is to prepare this healthy powder in bulk and store it so it can be used in other recipes. Here’s what you need to make this special sprouted grain flour. This recipe makes a kilogram of health mix powder:

  • Ragi (Finger Millets) – A wonder grain that is gluten-free and extremely healthy rich in protein, iron & fibre. I have used 250g of finger millets in this recipe.
  • Jowar – Great grain to boost immunity and help with digestion. I have used 250g of jowar in this recipe.
  • Wheat – High in fibre and helps with digestion. I have used 250g of wheat in this recipe.
  • Whole Green gram – High in protein adds flavor and more health to the recipe. 250g of whole green gram is used in this recipe.
  • Groundnuts – Another high protein grain. This ingredient can be eliminated if there is any allergy. Make sure to check for peanut allergy before making thsi for baby. I have used 250g of peanuts.
  • Cashew nuts – 100g of cashew nuts adds some calories to the recipe for babies.
  • Almonds – 100g of almonds adds good calories and nutrition for babies.
  • Carom seeds (Ajwain) – 10g of ajwain or carom seeds help with digestion and baby colic.
  • Pepper – 10g of pepper introduces a flavour to the recipe.

Alternately, you can choose to use the ready ragi flour, jowar flour, Barley flour, Wheat flour, green gram flour, and other ingredients powdered to make this wonder grain powder.

Instructions to make ragi sprouts powder

  • Wash & soak Ragi, Jowar, Wheat, Barley, Whole green gram, and groundnuts separately in water for 10-12 hours.
  • Drain all the water and tie them separately in a thin cloth to sprout overnight. Alternately place it in an airtight container until it sprouts. I even sprout them in instant pot.
  • Sprouted grains should be dried completely.
  • Dry roast each ingredient separately in a light flame till it turns golden brown.
  • Roasted ingredients are all powdered either in a flour mill or in a mixer grinder at home.
  • Mix them all well. Sieve the powder in a siever to make sure fine grains pass through.
  • Cool it down and store it in an airtight container.
  • The Ragi flour is now ready to be used to make porridge or any other recipes.

Tips Sprouted ragi

  • If you live in a cold country, sprouting grains can be hard. Use an instant pot to help with sprouting. You can tightly wrap the grain in an airtight container and use yoghurt mode for 24 hours to see beautiful sprouts.
  • This power powder can be stored in an airtight container for a year. Make sure to store in a dry place.
