The most exciting part of playing any The Elder Scrolls game is exploring its vast setting. The latest mainline titles are set within provinces in Tamriel, like Cyrodiil, Morrowind, and Skyrim. Each has unique cultures, customs, and environments that make them feel authentic and immersive. Therefore, it’s no surprise that a common point of speculation regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 is the province that it will be set in. Some fans guess the next location might be Hammerfell because it hasn’t seen a lot of attention in Elder Scrolls Online and the province has always been a flashpoint between the Empire and the Thalmor. If this is the case, it would be interesting to see how The Elder Scrolls 6 will tackle one diverse and unique region in Hammerfell.

The Elder Scrolls games are usually set within Tamriel, a large continent on the planet of Nirn. It’s home to various species and cultures that don’t always get along. This continent rarely sees peace, with major wars happening within its territory in each era. After the events of Skyrim, it looks like another Great War is brewing, as tensions grow between the Aldmeri Dominion’s Thalmor and the Empire once more. Hammerfell, which has resisted the Dominion’s takeover for decades, is the best setting to explore that inevitable conflict. Plus, it has one of the most interesting regions in the whole continent.

If The Elder Scrolls 6's Rumored Setting Ends Up Changing, Avowed Still Has That Same Spark

If the popular rumors around the main setting of The Elder Scrolls 6 end up proving false, the confirmed location of Avowed can soften the blow.

Hammerfell is one of the more geographically diverse provinces in Tamriel. It has vast fields, coasts, mountains, and an iconic desert known as Alik’r. This province has several thriving regions, but Craglorn stands out above the rest because of its structure and history.

Craglorn is Made Up of Drastically Different Biomes

This region sits on a large mountain, with its lowest elevation being a desert wasteland with scarce plant life. As one travels upward onto the middle cliffs, they’ll encounter a more lively rural area filled with forests and agriculture split into terraces. Meanwhile, the highest elevation is filled with thick fog. Those who have played ESO's Craglorn Adventure Zone will be familiar with the jarring, yet beautiful differences between each biome.

Craglorn borders the provinces of Cyrodiil, Skyrim, and High Rock, making it an important region for trade, and to some extent, diplomacy. After all, Cyrodiil and Skyrim house important Imperial strongholds and government headquarters, like the city of Solitude and The Imperial City. If Hammerfell participates in another great war, Craglorn will likely be in the thick of it.

Upper Craglorn, situated in the higher elevations of the region, is also part of the Western Reach. This is why its architecture and landscape look similar to Markarth. It would be interesting to compare the living conditions of the Reachmen in this area and those in Skyrim.

Craglorn is Steeped in Rich History

While Craglorn is native to Redguards, many ancient Elven civilizations, like the Ayelids and Dwemer have called Craglorn home. It was also the final place that the human race of the Nedes settled before their culture and customs became extinct. The oldest known species still existing in this region are the Iron Orcs, who even preceded the Redguards. Meanwhile, the central city of Elinhir in Craglorn was known for being a city of wizards, as its government was ruled by the Blackaster Mages Guild during the Second Era. Not much is known about it in the present day, except for its Colovian-influenced society. It would be interesting to see if it still holds true to its magical legacy.

Craglorn is one of the most fascinating regions not just in Hammerfell, but in all of Tamriel. It has an interesting history with its Iron Orc strongholds and wizard-run cities that could be a good backdrop for TES 6. The region’s geography is unique, but also strategic. Therefore, The Elder Scrolls 6 shouldn’t miss out on giving this region an important role if the game really is set in Hammerfell.
