FREDONIA — Jordan Lucas was at it again Saturday afternoon.
Fredonia’s senior ace tossed her third career perfect game with 18 strikeouts as the top-seeded Hillbillies shut out No. 8 Southwestern 3-0 in a Section VI Class B1 quarterfinal.
Jenna Fryberger’s RBI single drove in Danielle Palisin in the first inning and provided all the run support Fredonia would need. Palisin later scored on an error and Naomi Muck scored on a passed ball.
Lucas, who no-hit the Trojans last Tuesday, struck out the final 16 Southwestern batters she faced.
Arianna Silakowski scattered six hits and struck out 14 in the circle for the Trojans.
The Hillbillies will host No. 4 East Aurora in a 5 p.m. semifinal Tuesday. The Blue Devils beat No. 5 Alden 9-8 in another Saturday quarterfinal.
CLASS B2
FALCONER SLIPS BY
FALCONER — Emily Rhinehart threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks as No. 1 Falconer topped No. 9 Cleveland Hill 3-1 in a Section VI Class B2 quarterfinal at Ernie Strickland Field.
The Golden Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Mylie Zaranek reached on a two-out error, Emily Zaranek singled and Katrina Schrantz hit an RBI single.
Falconer went ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Nazariah Neal doubled with one out and Nylah Sharpe hit an RBI single. Sharpe then stole third and later scored.
The Golden Eagles scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. McKenna Fitzpatrick hit a leadoff single and eventually scored on Emma Sadowski’s RBI single.
Kamara Shelton scattered seven hits and struck out five for Cleveland Hill.
Falconer will host No. 4 Eden in a semifinal Tuesday.
CLASS C
GOWANDA SURVIVES VS. RANDOLPH
GOWANDA — Addison Kota had a pair of doubles, scored a run and drove in a run as No. 3 Gowanda rallied past No. 6 Randolph in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 2-1 Section VI Class C quarterfinal victory Saturday.
The Panthers will take on No. 2 Chautauqua Lake in a 5 p.m. semifinal Wednesday in Mayville. The Eagles beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley 12-0 in another quarterfinal Saturday.
The Cardinals scored their run in the top of the second inning when Sadie Steward walked and was eventually driven in by Abigail Pitts.
Kota tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts in the circle. Ella Luther and Lauren Kelly each added a single for Gowanda.
Pitts threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts while allowing two unearned runs and five walks. Donnilynn Sheldon had two of Randolph’s three hits.
JOHNSON TOSSES ONE-HITTER
MAYVILLE — Cayzlee Johnson threw a five-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts as No. 2 Chautauqua Lake beat No. 7 Cattaraugus-Little Valley 12-0 in a Section VI Class C quarterfinal Saturday.
The Eagles, who totaled just six hits, will take on No. 3 Gowanda in a 5 p.m. semifinal Wednesday in Mayville. The Panthers beat No. 6 Gowanda 2-1 in another quarterfinal Saturday.
Karagan Fairbank tripled, stole a base and scored a run; Jillian Miller singled and drove in two runs; and Kinslee Motter, Alice Scarpine and Alexis Szumigala each had a hit and an RBI for Chautauqua Lake.
TOP SEED ADVANCES SUNDAY
BARKER — No. 9 Maple Grove led 2-1 after the top of the third inning, but No. 1 Barker scored the next seven runs to lead 8-2 and held on late to advance to the Section VI Class C semifinals with a 14-9 quarterfinal victory Sunday.
The Red Dragons outhit the Bulldogs 11-9, but eight defensive errors led to eight unearned runs.
After scoring three runs, Maple Grove had two runners on in the top of the seventh inning before a flyout to left field ended the game.
Alex Halstrom went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, Meg Ryan 2 for 4 with an RBI, Dani Trim had a two-run double and Alex Caldwell had two hits for the Red Dragons.
Peyton Bradley struck out eight for Barker, which will host No. 5 Westfield in a 5 p.m. semifinal Wednesday.
RED DRAGONS MOVE TO QUARTERFINALS
FREWSBURG — Eighth-grader Meg Ryan had three hits, including a two-run home run, as No. 9 Maple Grove beat No. 8 Frewsburg 13-6 in a Section VI Class C prequarterfinal Saturday at the Robert H. Jackson Sports Complex.
The game was scheduled for Friday, but had to be moved to Saturday due to weather.
Maple Grove’s Lydia Darr threw 6 2/3 innings of seven-hit ball, striking out six and walking five before Ryan came in to strike out the final batter of the game.
Alex Caldwell and Savannah Weart each had three hits, including a double, while Dani Trim had two hits and four RBIs for the Red Dragons, who pounded out 18 hits as a team.
The Bears led 2-1 after the first inning before Maple Grove took control with a six-run second inning that was highlighted by Ryan’s first varsity home run.
Teghan Trocki had two hits and two RBIs, Mackenzie Martin had two singles, and Braelyn Stelmack had an RBI double for Frewsburg.
CLASS D
PINE VALLEY UPSETS FRANKLINVILLE
FRANKLINVILLE — Olivia Lawton and Danica Farnham each hit a home run as No. 7 Pine Valley beat No. 2 Franklinville 6-4 in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal Saturday.
Farnham threw a complete game with seven strikeouts in the circle and drove in four runs at the plate.
Alyssa West added three hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Panthers, who will take on No. 3 Clymer/Sherman in the semifinals Wednesday in Sherman.
PANAMA WALKS OFF VS. NORTH COLLINS
PANAMA — Corinne Hovey walked, stole second and scored on a Kaitlyn Horton RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning as No. 4 Panama beat No. 5 North Collins 4-3 in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal Saturday.
Kiera Loberg had two hits, including a double, while Horton also finished with two hits for the Panthers, who will take on No. 1 Ellicottville in a 5 p.m. Wednesday semifinal.
Jessica Lyon threw a complete-game seven-hitter with six strikeouts for Panama.
For North Collins, Cate Ayers threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts. Novalee Schlenker had two hits, including a triple, and Ayers had two hits, including a double.
BURCHANOWSKI’S BLAST POWERS WOLVES
CLYMER — Janelle Burchanowski hit a two-run home run to lead No. 3 Clymer/Sherman past No. 6 Forestville 4-2 in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal Saturday.
Elli Bodamer scattered seven hits while striking out 10 in the circle for the Wolves, who will take on No. 7 Pine Valley in a 5 p.m. semifinal Wednesday in Clymer. The Panthers beat No. 2 Franklinville 6-4 in another quarterfinal Saturday.
Bodamer went 3 for 3 and Burchanowski added two hits for Clymer/Sherman.
“This was a very good game and we knew it was going to be tough the whole way. Janelle put us out in front with her two-run home run, and Elli did a great job on the mound and at the plate,” Clymer/Sherman head coach Dave Bodamer said. “Late in the game Harleigh Faulkner and Alyssa Pratt drove in two crucial runs to seal it.”
Megan Gruber took the loss, also scattering seven hits while striking out seven. Carilene Sliwa went 3 for 3, while Jenna Emerson and Gruber each drove in a run for the Hornets.
“Sliwa is one of the best hitters we saw this year for sure,” Coach Bodamer added. “Gruber is a very good pitcher who has good speed and can locate her pitches. She was tough.”
