#Jumpingin” has been the definition of my career. That included my first time on live radio at the Minnesota State Fair. I had just announced “Carol from Burnsville” as the lucky recipient of one year of free home cleaning. This was eight years ago, a month into my first #marketingmanager role at a cleaning company. The in-person crowd cheered, baking over hot pavement.I was sweating for a different reason. What the audience didn’t know—what Carol didn’t know—was that our Minneapolis location only cleaned windows, gutters, and exteriors. We hadn’t started our home cleaning or “maid service.”We had a winner, but we didn’t have a way to deliver the prize, yet.Starting the interior home cleaning division in Minneapolis wasn’t part of my job. But when needed, for about a year, I tied a red bandana around my head to clean homes or cover the customer service line—while managing marketing for all of our locations. It started with a one-week, 1,899-mile training road trip to our three locations that offered interior home cleaning. St. Louis to Cincinnati to Cleveland and back. For that first year, while scrubbing the soap-scum exhaust of people’s busy lives off their walls, I focused on ROI-based marketing: #campaignstrategy and execution based on lead and customer acquisition costs for each service at each location.Radio ad-buy negotiations.#Directmail segmentation and results tracking.#Conversionrate testing on lead generation sites.Timing the delivery of #emailmarketing, direct mail, and #adbuys to optimize conversion rates among our existing contact database before acquiring new leads. My "jumping in" style started as a community journalist out of college. I would tell our production team to hold a 1,200-word space overnight for the next day’s print. That way, I could cover those highly-anticipated, after-midnight school board or city council meetings, write a story by 4 a.m. to get inked.A paralegal once babysat me in a conference room while I sorted through thousands of unsorted pages smothering a boardroom table. No signs of open meetings violations from public officials. #Worthashot. I tried not to be “gotcha” journalist. I developed relationships with people who shared background information that could have jeopardized their career. The work style followed me from the newspaper, to the cleaning company, and to the marketing agency. As an account manager, I led a team of developers, designers, content writers, and associates to develop and deliver content strategy for clients in a variety of verticals. When needed, I stepped into roles as much as my technical knowledge would allow: #copywriting; #PPC; landing page design; #SEO research reports.I’ve learned when to say “no” but also when I had to say “yes” for the sake of the machine continuing to churn.I’m also #opentowork. If you’re looking for a problem-solver whose tools are content, marketing, and strategy, send me a message. I’d love to connect.

If you are fortunate to work at a company like Muck Rack you can tell a lot about the culture by the way the tenured teammates act and talk. The following observations hit me immediately when joining and I continue to observe them:🔎 They believe in the mission...deep down passionate about it.🔎 Obsessed with customers and have crazy (good) stories about the lengths they have gone to drive value and great relationships.🔎 The photo booth factor: people having fun together.🔎 Execute in and out of their lane. They have a role, but repeatedly look to add value in other ways. They think broadly.🔎 Obsess about the product and know it deeply🔎 Relentless about sharing knowledge and recognizing others🔎 They have "good old day memories". They share them with you AND then are intentional about wanting to create NEW memories/successes with new teammates. They evolve.A few reasons why I love this place!
